Project NUR
Neighbourhoods Using Renewables – let’s use the power of daylight!
Are you struggling to meet increasing energy costs? We’re exploring how we can do something about that.
To get involved:
How does it work?
One of the best ways to reduce bills is with solar panels and a battery, but this is costly to install. We’re aiming to provide this system at no upfront cost for eligible households in Cardiff and Newport.
To get the most benefit from the solar panels and battery, we want to connect them into a wider community network using specialised software that will maximise savings – a ‘virtual power plant’ (VPP). Here’s how that works.
What is Project Nur?
Project NUR is a pilot project aiming to set up a community enterprise that will develop this network.
Why take part now?

Find out how you could save money with solar panels

Help design a project that benefits your community

Be part of something innovative for a greener, fairer future
Right now, we’re in the feasibility phase:
- Visiting homes to assess suitability for future solar and battery installation.
- Gathering views from residents about the idea.
- Understanding how it could work best in Cardiff and Newport.
For this to work well we need lots of households to join the community network. We’d love to know if you could be part of it.
What happens on a home visit?
- We check your roof for solar, space for a battery and electrical setup.
- We explain how the project could work and listen to your ideas and concerns.
- We offer energy advice to help reduce your bills.
The visit is free, with no commitment.
